1. Event Participation

By registering for or attending the Hoops and Hearts for MJ tournament ("Event"), you agree to these Terms and Conditions. The Event is organized by Hoops and Hearts for MJ ("we", "us", "our") and takes place annually at Aaniin Community Centre, Markham, Ontario.

All participants must be 16 years of age or older to compete in the playing tournament. Attendees and spectators of all ages are welcome. By completing registration, you confirm that you meet this requirement or, if registering on behalf of a minor attendee, you have the authority to consent on their behalf.

2. Code of Conduct

All participants, volunteers, and spectators are expected to behave respectfully toward others at all times. Hoops and Hearts for MJ reserves the right to remove any person from the Event without refund for behaviour deemed unsafe, disruptive, or contrary to the spirit of the Event.

3. Liability Waiver

Participation in basketball and physical activity carries inherent risk of injury. By registering as a player, you voluntarily assume all risk of injury, accident, or illness arising from participation and agree to release Hoops and Hearts for MJ, its organizers, volunteers, and the Aaniin Community Centre from any claim arising from your participation.

Separate liability waiver forms will be sent by email to all registered players prior to the Event. Players will be required to sign and return these forms before taking the court.

4. Photography and Media Consent

The Event will be photographed and filmed. By attending or participating, you consent to being captured in photographs, video, or other media produced at the Event. These may be used by Hoops and Hearts for MJ for promotional, social media, and fundraising purposes without compensation.

A separate photo consent form will be emailed to all registered attendees and players. If you have concerns about specific media use, contact us via the Get Involved page.

5. Refund Policy

Registration fees are non-refundable once payment is confirmed. In the event that the tournament is cancelled by Hoops and Hearts for MJ due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to weather, venue unavailability, or public health orders), registrants will be issued a credit toward the next annual Event or a full refund at our discretion.

6. Age Restriction

Players must be 16 years of age or older on the date of the Event. Proof of age may be requested. Attendees and spectators of any age are welcome. Minors attending without a parent or guardian do so at the responsibility of the adult who registered them.

7. Proceeds and Charitable Use

All proceeds from ticket sales and donations support yearly events run by Hoops and Hearts for MJ and are donated to related charitable initiatives working to improve the awareness and treatment of heart disease. No portion of proceeds is distributed as personal profit.

8. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The most current version will always be available on this page. Continued participation in or attendance at the Event constitutes acceptance of the current Terms.
